John Dilworth
HOPF, Carl Friedrich Born 1811 Klingenthal, died 1892 Brunndöbra Germany. Active from 1862 in Brunndöbra. First maker of the ‘Hopfgeigen’ or Hopf model for the violin, subsequently used by several generations of the family and also many commercial manufacturers. Fine work with golden-brown varnish of good quality. Branded internally: ‘C. F. Hopf’
