John Dilworth

HUNGER, Christoph Friedrich Born 1718 Borstendorf, died 1787 Leipzig Germany. Son of Samuel Hunger, below. Pupil of A. B. Jauch in Dresden. Employed by J. C. Hoffmann in Leipzig. Later succeeded to his business and established independently there. Early German copyist of Stradivarius, although retaining many Germanic characteristics. Clear yellow-brown varnish of good texture; some rather darker and more opaque. Fine violas and cellos.
