Clear yellow-brown varnish of good texture; some rather darker and more opaque. Fine violas and cellos. b. 1718, Dresden ; d. 1787, Leipzig. Pupil of Jauch in Dresden. He made very good violins, violas, and violoncellos on the Italian pattern ; the wood was of excellent quality, the varnish amber-coloured ; his instruments are some of the best of that time.
