JACKLIN, Cyril William Born 1902 Forest Gate, London, died 1988 Loughton, Essex UK. Pupil of Frank Howard in Nottingham before joining Frances Ciesla in business from 1921. Established independently in Robert Street, London from 1927. Carried out bow repairs for J. T. Wilson. Relocated to Shaftesbury Avenue 1931 and moved out of central London due to wartime bombing 1940, settling in Loughton. Returned to the city as director of Albert Arnold Ltd. 1949-1956, but on the closure of the firm went back to Loughton. Later became a consultant to Sotheby’s auctioneers, London. Own instruments made without a mould, allowing flexibility in models and forms. Carried out much research into varnish with commercial chemists. Highly regarded as a restorer. Also made bows.
