Henry Richard, Born 1860 Markneukirchen, died 1939 New York USA. Son and pupil of Heinrich Knopf, above. Also studied with his uncle Johann, below. Worked for Bausch in Dresden and for Christian Adam in Berlin. Emigrated to New York 1880, and retired 1930 leaving the shop in the hands of his sons, Eugene and Richard. Made 450 violins, 50 violas, and 50 cellos on large Stradivari models, the violins based on the 1714 Stradivari ‘Massart’ violin. Also some Guarneri-derived patterns made prior to 1890. Fine workmanship, excellent materials, and own orange-red oil varnish. Branded beneath fingerboard. Bows branded: H. R. KNOPF NEW YORK Henry Richard Knopf. / New York. Anno 1923. Henry Richard Knopf / New York Anno 1902 No.318.

Wilhelm, bei denen er zunächst das Bogenmachen erlernte. später kam er zu
Bausch nach Dresden und Adam nach Berlin und wurde hier als Geigenmacher
ausgebildet. 1879 ging er zu John Albert nach Philadelphia und machte sich bereits 1880 in New-York selbstständig. Er verarbeitet nur sehr altes Holz und ahmt das grosse Stradivari- Modell nach. Seinen Lack setzt er selbst zusammen.
