Probably a pupil of J. B. Guadagnini; the Guadagnini and Lorenzini families were certainly acquainted. Early work has a slightly coarse poor materials and thin golden ground, but good Italian quality. Later work is more finely finished with low but full arching and details finely attended to. LORENZINI, Gaspare Worked circa. 1743-1816 Piacenza Italy. Probably a pupil of J. B. Guadagnini; the Guadagnini and Lorenzini families were certainly acquainted. Early work has a slightly coarse poor materials and thin golden ground, but good Italian quality. Later work is more finely finished with low but full arching and details finely attended to. Red-orange varnish; slightly thin and brittle but very fine. Purfling often quite broad. Excellent small violas. Sometimes branded within a heart shape on the table beneath the fingerboard: ‘G.L.P.’ Gaspare Lorenzini / Fecit Placentiæ 1743 Gaspare Lorenzini / Allievo de Guadagnini / fecit Piacenza.1804
