LEHMANN, Max

Maker Overview

Life

German violin maker active in Berlin during the early twentieth century. Known for individually made violins, violas and cellos influenced by classical Italian models, particularly Stradivari and Guarneri del Gesù. His instruments, often bearing labels with opus numbers and the designation “Bln Lankwitz”, demonstrate careful craftsmanship, traditional construction and the characteristics of the German school of violin making. Surviving examples are relatively uncommon and represent the refined work of a skilled Berlin maker of the period.
