MEYER, Joseph Born 1610, Worked circa. 1630-1673 Geroldshofstetten bei Grafenhausen Germany. Maker of the Alemannische school. Son of Theus Meyer. Pupil of his step-father Adam Kirner. Gained his master’s licence in 1630 and active up to 1673. Typical work of the Alemannische school characterised by long, upright soundholes, often with the wings not separated from the outer edges, long projecting corners, and a great deal of decorative purfling and pyrography in floral and geometric shapes. Scrolls have a very steeply turned chin. The ribs are set into a channel cut into the back, the neck fitted without a separate upper block, and the bassbar central and carved directly from the wood of the front.
