MONTADA, Gregorio Born 1729, died 1806 Cremona Italy. This name (and variations of it) given in most dictionaries, but no examples of his work are currently known. Cecie Stainer+

A maker in Cremona about 1690-1735. Was either a pupil or merely an imitator of Omobono Stradivari. His work is fairly good.

Er nannte sich einen Schüler Stradivari’s, den er nicht ungeschickt nachahmte;
er soll übrigens nur Omobono Stradivari’s Gehilfe gewesen sein. Sein
Name kommt in allen möglichen Entstellungen in der Literatur vor, so Mondada,
Montade, Montaldi etc., sogar Montani, auch bei Vidal schwankt die Schreibung, trotzdem er vorher den Namen richtig angiebt.
