Pupil of Carlo Schiavi in Cremona. Several experimental models from early period, some with back and ribs carved from a single block. Later produced rather nondescript instruments on Stradivari models with transparent lightly coloured varnish; some unpurfled. Known to have used maple wood for the ba\u{2026} — John Dilworth

MUTTI, Vittorio Born 1903, died 1959 Castiglione delle Stiviere, Mantua Italy. Pupil of Carlo Schiavi in Cremona. Several experimental models from early period, some with back and ribs carved from a single block. Later produced rather nondescript instruments on Stradivari models with transparent lightly coloured varnish; some unpurfled. Known to have used maple wood for the bassbar.
