NIGGELL, Sympertus (III). Born 1710 Schwangau, died 1785 Füssen Germany. Son-in-law of Johann Ott. Most important maker of this family. Fine craftsmanship on a Stainer-derived model. Finely contrived volute with extended last turn. Varnish is of good honey brown colour but disappointingly thin and brittle. Arching varies from high in early period to a medium-full Amati type. Cellos very fine and of good proportions. Sympertus Niggell / Lauten und Geigenmacher / in Füssen, 1765 Sympertus Niggell, Lauten- und / Geigen-Macher / in Fûffen, 1771 [Bletschacher, Hamma]
