ÖHBERG, Johann (II) Born 1753, died 1781 Stockholm Sweden. Son, pupil, and successor of Johan Öhberg [I], above. Became a partner in the business in 1776 and received the appointment as luthier to the court. Also a musician, publisher, and general dealer in musical instruments, and organist at Stockholm cathedral. Very little work of his own is recorded and he died of scurvy aged only 28. Instruments similar to those of his father; also made plucked and keyboard instruments. Cellos lack the carved cockleshell pegbox chin; a plain round finial is substituted. The business was continued by his widow and by assistants Jerner and Wickström until at least 1793, the date found in the label of an instrument in the museum of Copenhagen.
