John Dilworth
PODGORNY, Timofey Filippovich Born 1873 Stratilatovka, died 1958 Moscow Russia. Self-taught maker and repairer. Established professionally from 1900 in Krasnodar (formerly Yekaterinodar). Influenced by A. Leman. Moved to Moscow 1913, and co-founded the First State School of Musical Instrument Making, where I. Morozov and N. Frolov were amongst his pupils. Prizes awarded in Brussels 1905, Antwerp 1906, and Russia 1913 and 1926. Completed over a thousand instruments, bowed strings of all descriptions, including 183 violas.
