RIEDELE, Mathias Worked circa. 1760, died 1802 Augsburg Germany. Pupil of G. F. Wenger. Similar style, based on Stainer model. Neat workmanship and finish. Soundholes set close to the edge and upright. Finely carved concentric scroll. Dark intransparent varnish. Violas, cellos, and small pattern double basses also known. Seiner Arbeit nach muss er ein Schüler. von G. F. Wenger gewesen sein, den er mit bestem Erfolge nachahmte. Er machte besonders vorzügliche Bässe, aber auch viele Geigen von kleinstem Umfang, Taschengeigen u. dgl. Da er im Adresskalender von 1792 noch, in dem von 1802 aber nicht mehr vorkommt, dürfte er in der Zwischenzeit gestorben sein.
