Er ist k. k. Professor und begann in seinem 38. Lebensjahre als Dilettant Geigen zu machen, nachdem er vorher die einschlägige Literatur sorgsam studirt hatte. Er besuchte die Geigenmacher in Wien, Prag, München, Graslitz, Klingenthal, Schönbach und Mittenwald und erzielte mit seinen Geigen bemerkenswerthe Erfolge, die um so werthvoller sind, als er mit technischer Fertigkeit eine tiefgehende Sachkenntniss verbindet.
