Um 1837 hat er sich in Hannover selbstständig gemacht und dann mit seinem Bruder Sebastian verbunden zu der Firma »Gebrüder Schiefler«. Erasm. Sch. war Conservator des Violin-Cabinets des bekannten Geigenkenners und Sammlers Major E. A. B. von Magius in Hannover und wurde von diesem für einen der trefflichsten Geigenmacher seiner Zeit erklärt. Jedenfalls kam es Schiefler sehr zu Statten, dass Magius ihm alle seine Zeichnungen und Berechnungen nach italienischen Meisterwerken übergab, die er in mehr als 40 Jahren eifrig gesammelt hatte.
