Ein tüchtiger Musiker (kgl. Kammermusikus), der sich aus Liebhaberei dem Geigenmachen zuwandte und es darin zu grosser Fertigkeit brachte. Auch er suchte unablässig das »Geheimnis des italienischen Geigenlacks« zu ergründen und durchforschte zu diesem Zwecke die italienischen Archive, ohne jedoch zu einem Ergebniss zu kommen. Glücklicher war er in der Auffindung von gutem Holz. Er betrieb das Geigenmachen als Kunst, und als ihm ein reicher Mann das Geld zur Begründung einer Geigenfabrik anbot, lehnte er ab, weil man »Kunstwerke« nicht fabriksmässig herstellen könne.
