A French maker who settled at Strassburg about 1785 ; he died in 1822. His two sons were both makers.

Solange in Strassburg die Zunftverfassung bestand (d. i. bis 1789), wurden die Lauten- und Geigenmacher dort zu den Schreinern gezählt, und so wurde auch B. Schwarz i. J. 1780 als »Schreiner« in die Zimmerleutezunft aufgenommen. Im Bevölkerungsregister von 1796 wird er als »luthier« bezeichnet, wohnhaft Finkenweiler (Strasse) No. 69, 52 Jahre alt, Vater von 1 Sohn und 4 Töchtern. In seiner Arbeit schloss er sich bald der französischen Schule an und machte sowohl Violinen als Violoncelli von guter Arbeit.
