Stayed with his family in Frankfurt and then Aschaffenburg until 1809, when he moved to St Petersburg to assist his brother Franz. STEININGER, Johann Martin Born 1780 Mainz Germany, d.c.1835 St. Petersburg Russia. Son and pupil of Jacob Steininger, above. Stayed with his family in Frankfurt and then Aschaffenburg until 1809, when he moved to St Petersburg to assist his brother Franz. Franz returned to Frankfurt in 1818, leaving Johann as master of the St. Petersburg shop. Vannes reports instruments on large Stradivari model with elegant corners and red-brown varnish.
