Da er sich Thibout fils nannte, liegt die Vermuthung nahe, dass auch sein Vater Geigenmacher war, wofür aber ein Beweis fehlt. Er war kein besonders geschickter Meister, scheint sich mehr mit Flickarbeit als mit dem Neubau beschäftigt zu haben und war hauptsächlich Händler. Thibout fils ist der älteste nachweisbare Vorfahr der Familie.
