John Dilworth

THUMHARDT, Johann Stephan Born 1749, died 1817 Straubing Germany. Pupil of Buchstetter. Established independently in Straubing from 1769. Considered to be the best maker of this family. Elegant model with long open ‘c’ bouts, medium arching, and golden-brown varnish of good depth and transparency. Maker of double basses, viols, and plucked instruments also.
