UNGARINI, Antonio Worked circa. 1745-1795 Fabriano Italy. Eccentric work. Rather inelegant outline with short corners and very full but low arching. Short broad rib corners in the Brescian manner. Very long narrow and deeply cut nicks to the soundholes, with lower finials of a strong transverse oval form. Diminutive scroll on long pegbox with very open throat. Fine varnish of good colour and texture; amber to red-brown, although at least one cello noted with painted purfling and yellow spirit varnish.
