VIMERCATI, Pietro Worked circa. 1640-1666 Brescia & Venice Italy Said by earlier commentators to have been the teacher of Stainer in Venice. No documentary evidence to support this idea or even of Vimercati’s actual existence. Supposed description: coarse work with high Brescian-style arching, some on narrow Amatisé pattern, with eccentric soundholes. Yellow to dark brown varnish. Small 71cm/28” cellos. No authenticated examples currently known.

Nach den ihm zugeschriebenen Geigen schloss er sich der Brescianer Bauweise an, ohne seine Vorbilder vollkommen zu erreichen. Besser gelang ihm dies bei seinen Nachnahmungen Amati’s. Angeblich hat Jakob Stainer bei ihm gearbeitet, wofür jeder Beweis fehlt.
