Nachdem er die Geigenmacherei erlernt hatte, musste er Soldat werden und machte am 5. und 6. Juli 1809 die Schlacht bei Wagram mit, wo er verwundet wurde. Er war mit einer geborenen Roth († 1866) verheirathet und bezog eine kleine Pension als ausgedienter Soldat. Er machte sowohl Geigen als auch Guitarren und gait als tüchtiger Meister.
