HELLSTEDT, Petter Alexander Born 1740, d. after 1776 Stockholm Sweden. Son and pupil of Petter Hellstedt, above. Apprenticed 1760-1763. Spent seven years travelling in France, Germany, and Italy, returning to the family workshop c.1770. Assisted his mother in the management of the business after his father’s death in 1772, taking over fully in 1774. No trace of him has been found of him after 1776. 83 violins recorded in 1774, but few if any known today. Henley provides a label: Petrus Alex Hellstedt / Fecit Holmiae 1777 [Nilsson]
