He worked in Cheapside c.1774-1777, Shoreditch c.1778, and Islington from c.1780. In 1795 he was arrested and tried for horse stealing, a capital offence. He was found guilty and hanged. HILL, Lockey Born 1756, Worked London, UK, died 1796 Fourth son and pupil of Joseph Hill (I), above. He worked in Cheapside c.1774-1777, Shoreditch c.1778, and Islington from c.1780. In 1795 he was arrested and tried for horse stealing, a capital offence. He was found guilty and hanged. Worked in a slightly coarser manner than his father, supplying Stainer and Amati modelled instruments to the London trade. Many of his instruments are branded by Longman & Co. or Longman & Broderip. Thinly varnished, often unpurfled. L. Hill / Violin & Violoncello / Maker / Boro’ / London [BVMA]
