In 1795 he was arrested and tried for horse stealing, a capital offence. He was found guilty and hanged. Worked in a slightly coarser manner than his father, supplying Stainer and Amati modelled instruments to the London trade. Many of his instruments are branded by Longman & Co. or Longman & Broderip.
