MAGGINI, Pietro Santo Cited in many older publications as the son of Giovanni Paolo Maggini, above, but this is not the case. The name may be a confection by later dealers. A five-string double bass in the Leipzig University collection is inscribed on the upper back: ‘Santo Maggini Brescia / Gottfried Thielke / Me Fecit Anno 1662’, but the first name appears to be a later addition and the instrument itself is consistent with Tielke’s known works.
