MERZ, August Born 1851 Klingenthal, died 1910 Altenburg, Thuringia Germany. Nephew and pupil of Christian Merz, below. Worked in Leipzig for L. Willibald Leo Lütgendorff+

Schüler seines Oheims, Chr. Merz; arbeitete vier Jahre bei Ludwig Bausch
& Sohn in Leipzig, machte sich 1877 zu Altenburg selbstständig und ist 1885
zum Hof – Streichinstrumenten- und Bogenmacher ernannt worden. Er macht
neue Streichinstrumente nach Stradivari, Guarneri und reparirt auch. Eigenthümlich
ist die Lage des Bassbalkens an den von ihm ausgebesserten
Instrumenten. Seinen Öllack setzt er selbst zusammen. Inhaber der silbernen Staatsmedaille der 1886er Landesausstellung.
