John Dilworth
NEFF Joseph Born 1819 Baden Germany, died 1887 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA. Thought to have trained as a piano maker in Germany. Emigrated to the USA 1840, settling initially in New York and later established in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as a piano maker. Violin maker from c.1850. Prizes at 1850 Franklin Institute competition and 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exposition. Amati-derived model. Stained wood with shaded finish. Fine local maple. [Wenberg]
