PETZ, Marianus Born 1742 Vils, died 1787 Vienna Austria. Successor to J. F. Leidolf in Vienna 1760. Established independently from 1775. High-arched Stainer model. Willibald Leo Lütgendorff+
Er dürfte aus Vils oder Füssen stammen, übernahm 1774 die Werkstatt
von Jos. Ferd. Leidolff und legte am 12. Februar desselben Jahres den Bürgereid
ab. Er wohnte als Lauten- und Geigenmacher Schottenviertel, Tiefer Graben
No. 363 und kommt von 1775—1781 in den Steuerbüchern vor. Seine Arbeiten
sind im Ganzen recht gut und sauber gemacht. Eine Bassgeige aus dem Jahre 1774 von ihm befindet sich im Schottenstift zu Wien.
