BAUMGARTNER, Fritz (II) Born 1924, died 1975 Basel Switzerland. Son and pupil of Fritz Baumgartner (I), above. Expert connoisseur. Diplomas awarded at the Hague 1949 and Liège 1954. Succeeded in business by his sons Roland and Michael, the shop remains one of the leading ateliers in Europe. Golden period Stradivari model of fine execution. Copied the 1705 Stradivari ‘Marsick’ violin. Yellow-orange to red-brown oil varnish. Bows after Tourte, branded ‘F.BAUMGARTNER Jr’ or ‘F.BAUMGARTNER Jr BALE’. Violin labels: F.
