John Dilworth+
CLAUDOT, Charles (I) Born 1750 Houecourt, died 1828 Mirecourt France. Trade quality violins and bows. Branded internally.
Cecie Stainer+
b. 1794, Mirecourt ; d. 1876. He made a number of instruments, of which few remain. The work is inferior, the varnish a yellow-brown colour; his name is to be found stamped inside on the back. His son made some good instruments.

Seine Arbeit ist sehr gewöhnlich; sein Lack von gelbbrauner Farbe ist in
der Mitte der Brust und des Bodens geschwärzt. Seine Geigen schreien und sind im günstigsten Falle brauchbare Orchesterinstrumente. Sein Name findet sich in der Regel im Boden eingebrannt. Häufig verwendete er die etwas räthselhafte Brandmarke »Marquis de l‘air l’oiseau«. Er verwendete ein Modell, das oberflächlich an Stradivari erinnert. Viele seiner Geigen und namentlich seiner Bässe, die, solange sie neu waren, gut gewesen sein sollen, haben jetzt allen Klang verloren. Er hatte zwei Söhne, von denen jedoch nur einer Geigenmacher wurde.
