FERGUSON, William Born 1769, Worked circa. 1809-1816 Edinburgh Scotland UK. Established at St Mary’s Wynd. Probably a pupil of Matthew Hardie using a similar ‘long Strad’ pattern of 36cm (141/8”) back length. Strongly related to the work of Blair and that of his cousin George Ferguson, although not quite so effective. Narrow edge, soundholes with slightly enlarged lower half, and small scroll with projecting boss. Orange-brown varnish. Wm Ferguson, violin maker / Edinburgh 2nd September 1815 [Rattray]
