FERGUSON, George Born 1786, Worked circa. 1825-1835 Edinburgh, Scotland UK. Limited production. Very good work with great style and particularly richly coloured transparent orange-amber varnish. Similar in many regards to John Blair, and his training would certainly have overlapped in some way with Blair, Matthew Hardie, and his own cousin, William Ferguson, below. Amatisé or early Stradivari model, narrow edges, soundholes a little bottom-heavy. Delicately carved scroll with close volute and sturdy pegbox. Finishing not of the highest order, but overall of considerable charm. [Rattray]
