John Dilworth+
KENNEDY, John Born 1730, died 1816 London UK. Nephew of Alexander Kennedy, above. Active in Cooper’s Gardens, Houghton Street, Clare Market, St Clement’s Lane, Long Alley, and from 1778 in Johnson’s Court. Finally established at 6 Bolton Street from 1790; all addresses in the east and south of the City. His work is of the coarse Stainer-inspired type seen in a lot of London trade work of the period; often unpurfled and sold through various merchants. In 1778 he was imprisoned for debt. Signed internally: ‘J. Kennedy’ [BVMA]
George Hart+
Nephew of Alexander Kennedy. Made Violins and Tenors.
William Meredith Morris+
A nephew of Alexander Kennedy. Indifferent work.
Cecie Stainer+
b. 1730, London; d. there, 1816. Was buried in Shoreditch Church. He was a nephew and pupil of Alexander Kennedy. The only instruments he made were violins and violas, all very arched, on the Stainer pattern; he chiefly worked for the dealers. He lived first in Cooper’s Gardens near Shoreditch Church, then, after various changes, in Long Alley, Sun Street, Moorfields, where he died.
