Seinem Stil nach ein Böhme, der wie die benachbarten vogtländischen
Geigenmacher seiner Zeit (Hamm, Ficker, Pfretzschner etc.) seinem Zettel einen
Wortlaut gab, der bei Unkundigen die Vermuthung aufkommen liess, als habe
man es mit einem Cremoneser zu thun. Das Modell ist nicht übel und auch
das Holz manchmal recht gut, — aber durchaus nicht italienisch. Der Ton ist
weich und voll, der Lack aber (gelbroth oder braun) schon in Wasser löslich
und schlecht. Eine Geige von ihm besitzt J. Rommel in Elisenhof bei Werneuchen Auf seinen Zetteln erscheint der Name meist Penze (wohl in Folge eines Druckfehlers) geschrieben, manchmal auch Ponze.
