POSCH (BOSCH), Anton Born 1677 Vils, died 1742 Vienna Austria Highly regarded and influential maker of the Viennese school, active from 1706. Appointed luthier to the royal court 1721. Stainer-derived model, with straightened centre bouts. High arch. Excellent workmanship and particularly fine clear golden-yellow varnish. Soundholes set quite upright. Scroll very beautifully and delicately carved, with a characteristically wide throw behind the first turn. Violas, cellos, lutes, and guitars known. Er wohnte im Kärnthnerviertel und legte am 20. Juni 1707 den Bürgereid
ab. Ein tüchtiger Meister, der in grossem Ansehen stand und Hoflautenmacher
war. Sein Lack erscheint heute fast schwarz, die Schnecke ist kunstvoll, der Ton aber
nicht besonders edel. Eine gute Viola von 1702 von ihm besitzt das Stift St. Florian in
Oberösterreich, einen Contrabass von 1730 Fürst Lobkowitz auf Schloss Roudnic und derselbe eine Viola von 1701.
