Ein in Labs. Kostelec in Böhmen gebürtiger und von dort eingewanderter Geigen- und Guitarrenmacher, der im Allgemeinen recht sauber arbeitete, wenn er auch nicht gerade als Künstler angesehen werden kann. Sein Neffe Wenzel Schmidt arbeitete mit Dvo?ák und Bina bei Patzelt.
