OPFERMANN, Johann Georg Born 1754, d. after 1798 Gotha Germany. Musician and luthier. Made both plucked and bowed instruments. Violins are high-arched with fine varnish. Johann Georg Opfermann / Instrumentenmacher in Gotha, 1797

Willibald Leo Lütgendorff+

Sohn des gothaischen Hautboisten Joh. Heinr. O. († 26. Juli 1789 im Alter von
72 Jahren). Joh. Gg. O. war wie sein Vater Hautboist beim gothaischen Militär
und beide betrieben nebenbei das Geigenmachen. Ihre Instrumente kommen
denen von Schonger in Erfurt nahe, die Geigen sind hochgewölbt und dunkel
lackirt. Eine Geige von Joh. Gg. Opfermann besitzt der Schmied in Bufleben,
eine siebenchörige Zither die kgl. Sammlung alter Musikinstrumente in Berlin.
