Vielleicht ein Sohn von Philipp Jakob F. Da dieser aber erst 1696 geheirathet
hat und schon um 1701 gestorben ist, geht schon daraus hervor, dass er
nicht dessen Schüler gewesen sein konnte. Dagegen spricht auch die Arbeit
von Mathias F., die diejenige von Phil. Jak. F. bedeutend überragt. Er verwendet
ein hochgewölbtes Modell ohne Hohlkehle; nur den meist aus einem
Stuck gearbeiteten Boden nimmt er ziemlich flach. Das Holz ist gut, Hals und
Schnecke gewöhnlich Birnbaum, die Schnecke sehr schön geschnitzt; auch der Lack ist gut und von rothbrauner, durchsichtiger Farbe. Der Ton ist ansprechend,
hell und gleichmässig.
